THE MADONNA INN

Every weekend I try to go to the Melrose Flea Market where somehow there is always a treasure to be had. Well this time on the ground I spotted a old scrapbook. Seeing how I love old photos I picked it up and to my screaming delight ( actually I remained calm and quit, you know the louder the scream the higher the price ) I found some old post cards of my favorite hotel the Madonna Inn. So your thinking how can this be, well take a look. The old place has not changed and I'm not kidding since these pictures were taken. The Madonna Inn is three hours north of Hollywood on Highway 101 in San Luis Obispo. You can't help loving this place in all it's bad taste, over the top color, and fake everything. Somehow I think I see enough good design and tasteful beauty to really appreciate the vulgarity.

I've seen photos before. Even though it's gawdy I still think it would be a blast to stay there!

Wowza! That place is fantabulous. In a wowza kinda way. They aren't faux rock are they? And the buffalo head....sweet dreams guests!

Believe it or not the rocks are real. I meant to label each room by it's name and room number but my tech skills are lacking in the spacing department. Maybe the next series. Thanks for the commments it's nice to know they're people out there who enjoy the beauty of tacky.

Now, see, this is the stuff of my dreams. I'll take bad taste over good ANY day. And when you consider that someone...anyone...thought that their decorating schemes *were* good taste, well, all the better.

Glad to "meet" you :)

I have always wanted to go to the Madonna Inn. Well, sort of. The idea of it is great, I'm not sure about how clean the bed linens are, though...
