This is happening all around town, screaming at me, burning my retina, and causing near driving accidents, the blooming bougainvillea. Despite all the billboards, trash, and all the crazy color in this city, this flower still shouts out drama like no other, or shall I say melodrama. This is Hollywood, after all.

That is bloody spectacular. Sorry. We have nothing like that around here-
Does it bloom long?
xx
It is spectacular. We are covered with wisteria in the spring, but it isn't quite as showy this amazing fushia stunner. Definitely a sight!
Hi Sarah, It blooms all summer long, the hotter it gets the better it blooms. It comes in white and orange as well. It's very California/ Mexico. I love it, thanks for stopping by.
nkp, see, I love wisteria.
Looks like bougainvillea. Someday when we relandscape our backyard, I want to plant some in the flowerbed next to our garage so that it can cover that wall. I think it would be beautiful.
We cannot grow that plant in Connecticut. The first time I went out to LA I just loved the Bougainvillea everywhere, even on the highway. That bright pink just brightens your day. I would grow it at my house for sure if I could!
I call those "Boogies" and they are spectacular!
Funny, I'm right here in southern CA too, just east, S/E of Hollywood and I haven't had luck growing any Boogies. One winter frost (and you know, here that means 32 degrees F lol) and they burn to death. =(
But I see them all over my neighborhood!
I love it. In Savannah, it's azaleas, and they are in full bloom right around St. Patty's Day, the biggest tourist week, here.
Great idea for a post, Kevin. You could have gone on indefinitely. In fact you could make a nice coffee table book about all the boogies in L.A.
LOVE it!! Except the part where everytime we walk in our out our back doors the loose petals get dragged in. Small price to pay to have a gorgeous bougainvillea right outside my doors. ;)
Kevin!
Wow! So full and the colors are intense looking!!

Hello Kevin,
I have always had a fondness for this lovely flowering plant and have desperately tried to get my sister to vary her plantings-she has the perfect home for this.
However she insists she is an avid gardener but persists upon placing hostas EVERYWHERE-no imagination. :-)
Have a lovely week Kevin!
