Have you ever awakened one morning and thought, '' I need more blue ''. The color blue that is. Well, I did this morning. Let me explain, so here we are looking at the stairs leading up to the master bedroom, bath, and deck.
Now we have the color choices and the formula, crazy I know more blue, Lord have mercy, enough already. So I thought, ok Kevin, you've done this many years ago to a client's staircase and loved it, and you've seen it a million times in Mexico, not to mention in pictures. But kids, it's a whole different story when it's your own staircase.
Now, what do you think? If your wondering if I got the color blue out of my system, I did, at least until next week.

What a great idea! The blue really brightens the whole space up!
Ciao from Newport Beach
I love it, Kevin! Anyone can have white risers. It takes imagination and elan to have blue ones.
wow! gorgeous.... can't wait to see it in person!
Fabulous of course! I love the different shades on the stairs...
I love it. Some patterns would be fun too.
Kevin,
Now there is an idea I can get in step with, ok, I know it’s a bad pun. But your steps are looking great, just wish I had steps here to use your idea on. – gary
i really love this kevin. it's perfect.
I thought we were going to get to vote on the blue! I LOVE it! I wish I could be that brave to live with more vibrant colors. It really looks great ~
Kevin, I absolutely LOVE it! Picking out the risers in different shades of blue makes them wonderfully decorative, and interesting, and is perfection in your house.
great!
Kevin- how lucky you are to have seen the colors of Mexico "a million times"! I would like to see them once. I do not understand why people are not brave about using color the way you are. Too much Ikea. Not enough San Miguel de Allende!
LOVE. pgt
Hi, Kevin - I not only like your selection of blues, but also how well they complement the beautifully polished wood. It's always fun to take a peek inside your house!
perfect!
Love, love, love! Personality in quirky Hollywood.
Love it. So simple but something I would never have thought of doing.

Oh wow, that turned out fantastic!
So transformative visually -- why I've been whisked away to the Greek isles.
Just goes to show that when an urge strikes you, 'tis best to go with it.

I like it! Different and brightens up the area! Great idea!
Oh boy...there's that staircase with that "hand chain" that I covet! I LOVE your riser colors! You are bold...k
We have nearly zero Blue at Post Apocalyptic Bohemia, except in the garden & I wear almost exclusively Blue.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the stairs! It makes then stair hall seem Aegean.
Oh Kevin... I LOVE IT!
I know what you mean when it's your own house. I'm so glad you went for it because it's completely fabulous and really took up a notch. I've always loved your staircase and now it's over the top. Great job... and speaking of jobs, my boy is down there this summer and has one!! I'm so happy :)
I hope you can take us thrift store shopping for some frat decor in September... I'm counting on you!!
Much love...
Terri
There's more than a bit of Sardinia to this, the Costa Smeralda—it works perfectly in your Mediterranean style house.
Wow, does that look awesome. I have always wanted to paint the risers on my stairs, but have always been intimated. Being a New Englander I always thought of some kind of funky colonial mural. What a lovely blog you have. Thank you for following my blog and I look forward to many happy visits to yours.
Brilliant! Love that you chose different colors. May I humbly suggeste that you paint the tops whit? I also love your latest post. Hope you brought the crystal chandlier with you home!
OK, I'm going to be the spoil sport - the blues don't work for me. A couple of reasons. I don't much care for blue and I liked the simplicity of the stair case with out calling attention to the risers. Just my personal preference.
I would have gone to a local carpet store, talked them out of 20 or 30 floor samples and tacked them down on the treads. It muffles the sound, cushions the foot, captures dirt, and you could use whatever graduating colors you liked. Ann
Give me colour every time. But I would have graded the colours from dark blue moving upwards gradually to pale to add to the sensation of rising.
i have been wanting to do this to my stairs for so long, but i'm afraid to take the leap. it looks so gorgeous. you did a fantastic job!
Simply fabulous! Makes me want to rip the apartment-grade carpet off my steps and get painting!
I love your stairs....so inspiring! Also toured your home on AT.....omy..... can I move in? Your home is so beautiful and comfortable and cozy and love the art and humor!
